What You Need To Know Before You Visit NYC

Here are my 10 top tips for preparing for your next trip to New York City...

  • Know what 'downtown' is - downtown means “in a southerly direction” or one of the neighbourhoods below 14th street.

  • Use the metro as your primary use of transport - the metro in NYC is the quickest and cheapest mode of transport to get from A to B.

  • Tipping - tipping is expected in NYC and the general rule-of-thumb is 15-20% of your bill.

  • Buy the New York CITYPass - this pass is a great way to visit lots of NYC's attractions, skip the queues and save on ticket prices.

  • You HAVE to try a famous NYC bagel - this is an unwritten rule in NYC!

  • FREE activities - there are many free activities to do in NYC (although it may be hard to believe!)

  • Check if restaurants have an A rating from the NYC Health Department - it's better to be safe than sorry!

  • Avoid the tourist traps - try and find some hidden gems!

  • Go to local restaurants not chain restaurants - use Google Maps or Yelp to find the best restaurants in NYC!

  • Visit more than just Manhattan - I'd 100% recommend checking out Brooklyn!
