My Favourite Thai Street Food

Updated: Oct 5, 2021

I absolutely love Thai food and I’d almost go as far as saying I’m obsessed! I love the flavours, the variety and even the spice (which is a lot coming from me as I don’t usually like spicy food!). My favourite places to eat Thai food are Bangkok and Chiang Mai. However, there are a few restaurants/food trucks where I live which means I can fulfil my Thai food cravings without having to take a trip to Thailand. My favourite food truck where I live is called Woonoo’s and it is located by the Harbourside in Bristol. They serve the most popular Thai dishes including Thai Green Curry, Massaman Curry and Pad Thai. In addition to this they also have Mango Sticky Rice which is one of my all-time favourite Thai street foods. In this blog post I’m going to talk through my favourite Thai Street Food and my experiences of trying these dishes in Thailand!

Thai Green Curry

My all-time favourite Thai street food is a Thai Green Curry. When I think about my street food experiences in Thailand, a Thai Green Curry comes to mind. I love all the components of the dish, the spice, the vegetables and the chicken of course. Whenever I eat it I feel as if the dish is melting in my mouth – it’s that good! My favourite experience of eating a Thai Green Curry was in Chiang Mai. Chiang Mai is famous for its street food and so I had to make sure I had a look around all the street food options when I visited.

Pad Thai

One of my highlights during my time in Bangkok was visiting the famous Khao San Road. Khao San Road offers everything a tourist or backpacker desires – good food, cheap bars and cheap accommodation. During a daytime visit to Khao San Road, my tour group and I went to eat some street food. Eating street food in Thailand is such an authentic experience and often you are sitting amongst the locals watching your food being cooked and prepared. On this occasion, I ordered a Pad Thai and it did not disappoint! Pad Thai is probably the most famous Thai noodle dish so I couldn’t visit Thailand without trying the dish. The noodles and vegetables were full of taste with the red chilli adding a sharp yet tasty element to the dish.

Massaman Curry

During my time in Thailand, it was my boyfriend who introduced me to the Massaman Curry and now it has become one of my favourite Thai dishes. A Massaman Curry is rich in flavour, mild in spice with its main component being beef. It has a strong coconut taste which is one of my favourite parts of the dish. One of the best Massaman curries that my boyfriend said he has ever had was in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I can vouch for that as I made sure I had a try too!

Mango Sticky Rice

Mango Sticky Rice is by far my favourite sweet Thai street food. The combination of the sticky rice and the sweet mango is out of this world! It is so rich in flavour yet light too which makes it not too heavy on the stomach as sometimes eating lots of carb heavy food makes me feel very bloated. It doesn’t matter where I eat it in the world, it makes me feel as if I’m in Thailand eating it at a street food market. The best mango sticky rice I’ve ever had was at a street food market in Penang, Malaysia. What made it even better too was that it was so unbelievably cheap!
